Bradenton Redskins Fan Club Newsletter Volume 14, Number 13It has been awhile but the Redskins won in stunning fashion, humiliating the Raiders 34-13. They entered the fourth quarter winning and were in firm control, not struggling to hold on to a lead. In the entire second half the Raiders only scored a field goal and that was on their first possession. From then on the Redskins scored 17 points. "It seemed like a long time coming, and we've been so close the last several games," Coach Zorn said. "To be able to close it out like we did and to keep the pressure on the entire game and overcome some of the adversity that was put forth, I can't tell you how excited I was for our players." Tight end Fred Davis said: "Most of the time when we've lost, it's been in the fourth quarter and not finishing a drive, and today was one of the times we finished like we were supposed to." And Santana Moss said: "If we keep doing what we're doing, we can do big things these last three games. I saw it when we came off the bye with the second half of the Falcons game, and we've played that way since." The Redskins posted eight sacks (the most since 1990), including four by Brian Orakpo, who has 11 in his rookie year. In addition to Orakpo, Andre Carter had two, Lorenzo Alexander and Reed Doughty each had one sack. Other players had major contributions. Tight end Fred Davis (who replaced the injured Chris Cooley) caught two touchdowns, he has 28 catches, 324 yards and five touchdowns in seven games since becoming the No. 1 tight end. Running back Quinton Ganther scored two TDs. Quinton Ganther lived just 17 miles from the Oakland coliseum and had a reported 200 family and friends at the game to watch his first NFL start. "It's a dream come true," Ganther said. "When they told me [Wednesday] I was starting, it was a shock to me, but I told 'em I wasn't going to let 'em down, I was going to make some plays." Ganther averaged just 3.6 yards on his 14 carries. Campbell Campbell completed 16-for-28 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns and achieved a 100-plus passer rating (106.5) for the third time in five games. In Sunday’s game eight players caught at least one pass. On Campbell play Coach Zorn commented: "Jason has been playing well - he's seeing, he's doing, he's managing the line of scrimmage very well, and his decision-making, turning a throw down, keeping the ball in our possession was critical because he got sacked and hit and held on to the ball." New kicker Graham Gano was 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points. A week ago, Gano was kicking for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League. On Sunday, the rookie from Florida State kicked field goals of 46 and 41 yards in the rain, in his first NFL game. Gano signed with the Redskins on Tuesday to replace Shaun Suisham. The Redskins played without DeAngelo Hall and Albert Haynesworth on defense and Mike Sellers on offense; all three were inactive and did not travel to Oakland. Other interesting numbers were that the Redskins have not won away from FedEx Field since defeating the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 23 last season. Also this is the first time the Redskins have scored at least 30 points in consecutive games under Zorn and the 21-point margin of victory was another milestone for Coach Zorn. Also the Redskins lost the last three games by a total of seven points. The Redskins are out of contention for a play off spot, but if the Cowboys or Giants want to make the play-offs they have to go through an improving Washington Redskins.
