Bradenton Redskins Fan Club Newsletter Volume 14, Number 12In front of 85,520 hopeful fans the Redskins lost their third straight game after leading in the fourth quarter 33-30. Two big plays cost them the game. The first was a muffed special teams play with 1:43 left in the second quarter, and the other a failed chip shot field goal by Redskins punter Shaun Suisham. With 1:43 to play in the second quarter, Saints punter Thomas Morstead kicked a 27 yard punt to Antwaan Randle El, who signaled for Redskins blockers to clear the area. However the ball hit Kevin Barnes. This gave the Saints the ball and on 3-26 Drew Brees threw a pass that was intercepted by Redskin safety Kareem Moore. Starting to return the ball it was ripped away from him, picked up by a Saint receiver and ran for a 44 yard New Orleans touchdown, with the score 17-17 at half time. "I tried to get out of the way like I'm supposed to, and the ball just hit me," Barnes said. "There's nothing I could do about it. When the returner tells you to basically scatter, you pretty much move out of the way. But it pretty much never happens on a punt that short. You don't really ever expect a punter to kick it that short." Of the play Moore commented: "I was trying to make a play, trying to go score. He had me by the arm, and I tried to spin out of it, and then using my momentum just took the ball from me. He made a good play." The second major event of the game happened after Redskin kicker Shaun Suisham missed a 23-yard field goal attempt with 1:56 left in the game, the Saints ran down the field in 33 seconds and a five play drive for a touchdown. That tied the score with 1:19 left in the game. The game then went into overtime. Previously Suisham had made field goals from 32, 28 and 21 yards. "All you wanted was a chance," said Saints safety Pierson Prioleau. "That field goal miss was our chance." The Redskins won the coin toss and received to begin overtime. Washington started on its 20 Moments later the Redskins turn the ball over on a very controversial play and the Saints have the football on the Redskins 37. Campbell had thrown a pass to Mike Sellers who was then hit by Saint cornerback Chris McAlister. Although the ball came out when Sellers hit the ground and McAlister recovered, the play appeared to be over because the official blew the whistle. But the replay assistant challenged that Sellers was down before the ball came out. The play was reversed on review. 8:31 into overtime the Saints kicked a field goal, giving them the victory at 33-30. Sellers was not happy about the reversal saying: "It's not the fact that I thought I was down, it's the fact that as soon as I was hit the whistle was blown and that was it. That killed the play. Every time the whistle is blown the play is always dead. But now the whistle is blown [and] the play counts? I don't understand that. But nothing is falling our way this whole season. I just don't understand this." Campbell had his best performance of the season, 30 for 42, 367 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 111.9. Another outstanding Redskin with a career best day was Devin Thomas with 7 catches for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns. A MESSAGE FROM BOBBESame old song ................ and definitely one we fans are tired of. Some teams have one big play to WIN on and the Redskins seem to have one big play to LOSE on. Not much longer and the torture will be over. Not much fun in looking forward to the end of the season but .........it is what it is.We did have a lively spirited group of 33 members in attendance and the Christmas Raffle got even bigger with more donations. Rita is selling tickets (3/$5.00) and she feels that sales are lagging. We ask each of you to please support your club by purchasing tickets next week. Your financial support of these raffles enables us to host our parties that we all enjoy so much each season. Next Sunday, December 13th, the Bradenton Redskin Fan Club will host it's Annual Christmas Party beginning with a pasta dinner at 3 p.m. -- come early to get your seats !! Our gift exchange (bring one- get one) and the Holiday Raffle will be held throughout the game. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Thanks this week to Jeff for conducting the trivia squares game for us. Winners were: Charles (2), Jean and Bobbe. We are hoping for enough interest next week in doing 2 such games. We also will need a show of hands as to how many of you plan to be at F&F for the Monday night game against the Giants on December 21st. I need to let Jim know if we plan to use the Redskin Room. See you at the Christmas Party ............................ HTTR
