Bradenton Redskins Fan Club Newsletter Volume 14, Number 4

October 6, 2009

The Sunday after losing to the Detroit Lions, ending their 19 game losing streak, the Redskins were again in serious danger of losing, this time to the Bucs. However, with 1:22 left in the third quarter Jason Campbell threw to Santana Moss down the sideline for a 59 yard touchdown pass. The pass put the Redskins ahead in the game and they never gave up the lead, winning 16-13.

About the pass Moss commented: "You've got to be ready. They showed me kind of like a cloud all game. They were gonna cloud me and have a safety over the top. And just when they didn't, we had the perfect play dialed up." A piece of trivia is that with Moss 57 yard touchdown pass last week, and this week’s 59 yard touchdown pass, Moss became the first Redskins wide receiver with touchdown passes of at least 50 yards in consecutive games since Gary Clark in 1987.

The game started with the Redskins giving up a sack on the second offensive play of the game, and a sack-fumble on the third play. The turnover gave the Bucs an early touchdown and put them in the game.

Jason Campbell later added three interceptions to his opening turnover, saying later: "It's the first time in my career I ever had three picks, even in peewee, high school and college."

Tight end Chris Cooley caught five passes for 65 yards. Running backs Ladell Betts and Mike Sellers combined for four receptions.

I did not realize it watching the game on TV, but it was reported that there were boos after Campbell fumbled, boos after a third-down pass got batted, boos after interceptions, boos after another throw hit an official in the head, boos as the Redskins left the field at half-time. These stadium fans paying $75.00 plus for tickets, were constant reminders of the growing unrest in Washington.

On the team’s efforts to win, Santana Moss said "We're getting a lot of criticism.... But at the end of the day, if you sit back and worry about what somebody's telling you about what you do, then you're not in it for the right reasons. It's tough to be the quarterback of this team. It's tough to be the head coach of this team. It's tough to be the owner of this team. D.C. wants so much, and we want to do that for them.... Particularly today, we wanted to get a win here, just to show the fans that, yeah, we hear y'all. Yeah, we understand what y'all are feeling and what y'all are going through. But just believe -- we're going through the same thing. You think we want to be in this situation? You think we want to play the way we've been playin'? No. The only way for us to come out of it is to come out and do what we do."

"It was really frustrating for us all," Coach Zorn remarked. "I kept looking at the game plan and thinking: What else could go wrong with my play calling? I kept looking for the right sequence, that rhythm, that play selection that was going to get guys unleashed."

The Redskins' next home game is against the Kansas City Chiefs, whose record is now 0-4. Next week the Redskins cannot spot these truly awful teams 10 points and have fans hanging on in the last few minutes to see who wins.

A MESSAGE FROM BOBBE

We'll take it --- this game will go in the win column but it wasn't very pretty.

We didn't have a huge turnout (only 34) but we continue to welcome newcomers. It's good that so many fans are searching the Internet for groups that support their favorite football team -- the WASHINGTON REDSKINS! Our thanks to our web master, Eddie, for keeping our site up-to-date. Thanks too to Tommy for filling in for Brendan this week with the Trivia squares. Sunday's winners were: Gene, Nick, John and Greg. Congratulations to each of you.

Next week, Sunday, October 11th will be our TAILGATE PARTY. Buffet service will begin at noon and continue throughout the game. At halftime I'd like to ask everyone to step outside for a "group photo" that will be posted on our web site. And, we'll have the drawing for the unique Redskin wall mirror.

Our Club has also received more items to be part of our "give away" during the game next week. Be sure to get your FREE TICKET for these drawings.
