Bradenton Redskins Fan Club Newsletter, Volume 13 Number 04Redskins get big win over Cowboys in Dallas, 26-24 In the last game the Redskins will play in Dallas before the Cowboys leave their Texas Stadium for their new home, the Washington Redskins a 11.5 point underdog did the impossible, they won. The Redskins gave Dallas their first defeat with the score 26-24. Washington’s record is now 3-1, putting them a half game behind the undefeated Giants. Of significance is that the Skins are 1-1 in divisional road games. The NFC East division is the toughest in the NFL, and three teams are expected to make the playoffs. However, there are four teams in the division, so each divisional game is critical. Sunday proved that the Redskins belong in the NFC East discussion. The Redskins' record in Dallas is 10-26, with the last win in 2005. "This division is unbelievable, and all four teams can't make it - that's impossible," tight end Chris Cooley said. "Beating a team like this is a huge step for us." Some comments by Redskins players and coach: "What feels even better is having the team believe in what we're doing and the direction we're going," Coach Jim Zorn said. "That part feels good - they're responding to this style of leadership." "It felt like we were in charge of the game all day," Cooley said. "Offensively we did what we wanted, and defensively they made some huge plays. It was just a lot of fun for us." "The Cowboys are regarded as one of the top elite teams in the NFL, and to be able to come into their place and beat them definitely bodes well for us," right tackle Jon Jansen said. "I like it -- winning," said cornerback Shawn Springs, who grew up in the stadium as the son of former Cowboys player Ron Springs. Commenting on Coach Zorn’s short quick passing system, Chris Cooley said: "It's not a high-risk offense; it's move the ball down the field and take what you can get. And Jason did a tremendous job of taking advantage and just putting the throws on the guys who need them." Helping the Redskins 3-1 record is the team’s turnover ratio of plus six, tied with the Tennessee Titans. Campbell was very successful Sunday afternoon; he was 20-for-31 for 231 yards and two touchdowns. Campbell has won three consecutive starts for the first time in his career, and is turnover-free for the season. He has been holding on to the ball, even when sacked. Santana Moss had eight catches for 145 yards and Clinton Portis with 21 carries for 121 yards. It was also a successful test for the secondary who played the fourth quarter without injured cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Fred Smoot. And remember defensive end Jason Taylor is still out. Cornerbacks Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers played physically on Owens, jamming him at the line and bumping him whenever possible. Terrell Owens was held to seven catches for just 71 yards. This season rookie safety Chris Horton has caught three interceptions and a fumble recovery. When Dallas put together a quick rally to tie the score at 17-17 early in the third quarter, the Redskins responded by scoring field goals of 33, 33 and 29 yards from Shaun Suisham and then did not allow Dallas near the end zone until the final two minutes. Victory wasn't secure until 1:42 remained. After Suisham's third field goal of the half gave the Redskins a nine point lead, Dallas moved 87 yards in 1:40 to make it a two-point game with a touchdown pass. After the onside kick failed the game was over. There were two potential turning points in the game; one good and one bad. Midway through the third quarter two Redskins touchdowns were called back by two penalties on the center Casey Rabach for holding and illegal man down field. The Redskins settled for a field goal. "Anytime you get [close] and put the ball in the end zone and they take it back, you think it might come back to haunt you," Jansen said. The other turning point was late in the third quarter. Dallas moved to its own 37, when safety Chris Horton intercepted a Tony Romo pass, leading to a Redskins field goal and at that time a 23-17 lead... We'll face them again on our field in a late game on Sunday, Nov. 16th. Circle this date on your calendar now. It's sure to be a war!! We had 60+ fans cheering wildly in the NEW Redskin Room at Firkin & Fox. It was amazing! Our lucky Trivia winners were: Nick (2), Bea & Bob, and Bud & Kathy. Thanks to all members for supporting our weekly raffle. Please keep it up and don't forget to donate an item. For each item you donate, you will receive a free raffle ticket! I personally want to thank all our members for the great turnout and for the nice comments about the smooth transition from the Dog House to our new home base. It couldn't have been done without the help I received from Eddie Kim, Bob Daly, my husband Gary and the owners at F & F. There are a few kinks that I'm sure will be worked out. F & F has only been open 5 weeks so I'm sure they are still working to smooth out their operation too. I am meeting with Joe, our F & F host, this week to discuss some things that he wants to address as well as plans for our tailgate party. I'll keep you posted. So, now we face the Eagles, kickoff is 1 pm Sunday. See you then -- HTTRP.S. I'm not saying this too loud yet -- just a whisper for now BUT I really do want to play football in January! How 'bout you???
