Redskins get big win over Cardinals, 24-17

In the opening drive Jason Campbell was 6-for-6 passing, as he led his team on a 60-yard march that included two third-down conversions, a 16-yard run by the quarterback himself and a 3-yard touchdown run by Clinton Portis. The next score was a fumble recovery by Carlos Rogers giving the Redskins possession at the Arizona 29, with the drive ending with a field goal by Suisham for a 10-0 score. Arizona cut the lead to 10-7 late in the first half. Later Arizona tied the game with a 26-yard field goal. Jason Campbell came back with a 2-yard touchdown pass to Todd Yoder to put the Redskins back in the lead. The Cardinals tied the score at 17-17 on a 62-yard touchdown run by wide receiver Larry Fitzerald. On Arizona's next series, Warner faced a five-man rush and under threw Steve Breaston, allowing Leigh Torrence to deflect the ball, hitting his helmet, and into the arms of Carlos Rogers who ran it to the 15 yard line. Two plays later, Santana Moss scored with 12:10 remaining, giving the Washington Redskins the score of 24-17, which held for the rest of the game.

Jason Campbell completed 23 of 31 passes for 193 yards with two touchdowns. No completion gained more than 26 yards, but no interceptions either. In Sunday’s game, Campbell completed his first eight passes. Clinton Portis ran 21 times for 68 yards and a touchdown for the Redskins. To date, Moss has 19 catches and three touchdowns. About the west coast offense Moss commented: "I'm loving the way this offense is being run and loving the way they're throwing the ball around to everybody.” Of note to all Redskins fans is that Moss has a touchdown catch in six straight games (including last year's playoff game), tying Bobby Mitchell's franchise record set in 1964. It is interesting to note that both teams had a wide receiver throw a pass: Arizona's Jerheme Urban completed his pass for 18 yards, and Washington's Antwaan Randle El passed for 11-yards.

The Skins defense wasn’t bad either. Arizona’s only passing play longer than 20 yards was a 62-yard touchdown in the third quarter. And when Arizona was on its own 42 yard line, after Suisham's failed 52-yard field goal with 3:23 remaining, the Cardinals gained only 6 yards. Of the defense Coach Zorn said: "Incredible. They really did a wonderful job." Defensive tackle Cornelius Griffin also had high praise for his teammates: "Jason's doing a great job. The offensive line is playing pretty well, [Clinton Portis] is running the ball hard and Santana and [Chris] Cooley are making plays. I like watching them. I'm a fan, too." As Jason Campbell put it, "Last year when we had to win games late by getting the first down, we always gave 'em the ball back. This year we've been great at getting the first downs....We kept our composure. Sometimes when a touchdown is called back, teams lose it right there. They get frustrated. It speaks to our maturity." The Redskins now get ready for two road games in Dallas and Philadelphia. The next two games will be difficult. "It's going to be a battle because Dallas will be at home and playing with a swagger, just like we would if we were at home," Griffin said. "No matter what the records are, both teams will be ready to play."

Trivia: Last week’s question: In this year’s depth chart, who is the third quarterback? Answer: Colt Brennan. This weeks question is: How many seasons have the Redskins played in Washington?
