Volume 12 #3
September 24, 2007 (Brendan Egan)
I saw two games yesterday. The first the Redskins won
17-3 at home, and the second they lost 21-0 at home.
There were two teams playing on Sunday, and I do not
know where the first team went, but if definitely did
not show up for the second half.
Here is a summary of the game: leading 17-3 at half
time at home the Redskins muddle through for only 83
yards in the second half, and
the final four plays after they reached a first down
at the Giants 1-yard line with 58 seconds left to
play, then couldn't gain that final longest yard in
four attempts. The end.
THE REDSKINS dominated the Giants in the first half,
building a 17-3 lead, they seemed on the verge of a
play-off contender instead of a pretender. Now that
momentum has been slowed down considerably. The
Redskins had a chance to start their season 3-0 with
the Detroit Lions in two weeks.
The Redskins could only manage 15 yards in their first
four possessions of the second half. While, the Giants
gained 200 yards of offense, completing drives of 61
and 62 yards and tying the game at 17. The Redskins'
third possession of the second half ended in a punt
after Clinton Portis dropped a third-down pass. The
next time the Redskins got the ball, quarterback Jason
Campbell fumbled it trying to hand off to Portis.
"It came down to a tale of two halves," said Gregg
Williams. "We've got to do our part defensively to get
our offensive into a rhythm, too. We were on the field
too long, but we need to get them in a rhythm, too."
"We felt like we were in control of the game at
half-time. I don't know what happened. It was like a
completely different team went out there in the second
half," said Ladell Betts.
Of the final three plays of the game Betts commented:
"On the last play, I don't know if they had our snap
count down or what, but they were really off on the
ball. They got penetration so fast." He continued: "We
didn't give our defense any help. We went three and
out, three and out."
One reporter of the game wrote: “That last play was
fitting because, in the second half, the Redskins'
offense was pathetic, conservative, inefficient and,
with the game on the line in the final drive, often
alarmingly disorganized.”
A MESSAGE FROM BOBBE ........
"A Tale of Two Halves"
Wow -- you talk of opposites ! Night/day, up/down, off/on ---- any of these describe last Sunday's game. The Redskins didn't play the Giants very well but they sure played our emotions out.
At 3 p.m. our gang of 48 was beginning to munch on a delicious "veggie tray" --spirits were high and raffle tickets and Trivia Squares were underway. By 3:30 pm our buffet table was set -- Larry and his wife, Chris, doing another great job and the serving line began. Food was plentiful and very tasty -- yum, yum !!
Our NEW server is Denise and on regular games we will have a second server, Jen. We welcome each of them.
First half we were all cruising along - singing our song ! 1st and 2nd quarter Trivia winner was "Fran" -- congrats !
Halftime was really busy with lots of extra raffle sales once everyone realized that a 2007 autographed poster was up for grabs along with the Fan Club Shirt and some special gifts brought in and donated by club members. The poster was won by Dave and Melissa Morgan and the shirt by Neon (Mary) who plans to gift it to her niece, Wendy, who our Club helped out during a time of need with Hurricane Katrina. A scrumptious and beautifully decorated cake was served and a vote was taken to determine date for our Annual Christmas Party. Due to a crazy December game schedule -- we will hold all Christmas functions on December 2nd -- more to follow. Meanwhile, you can donate items of "special value" to the Christmas Raffle along with your donated items for the weekly raffles. Tickets are now being sold for the 4 autographed mini-helmets -- autographs are from John Riggins, Gary Clark, Dexter Manley and Rock Cartwright -- 4 separate drawings !!
Then, of course, the 2nd half began and I am lost for words. It wasn't that WE LOST (we never dreamed we'd go 16-0 for the season) but it was THE WAY we lost. No more needs to be said. With a bye week coming up -- let's all get past this one and have our spirits in high gear for the game against the Lions on Oct. 7th -- 1 p.m. 3rd and 4th quarter Trivia winners were Neon and Bonnie -- way to go !!
Hope to see a big turnout on Oct. 7th -- bring raffle items !! HTTR
Trivia: Last week’s question was -- were is the
Redskins training facility and what is it’s name? Name
the city, the county and a landmark nearby. The
answers are: Redskins Park, Ashton, Va, Loudoun County
and the landmark is Dulles International Airport. Two
weeks ago the trivia was about the last game played at
RFK Stadium. This week the question is what date did
the Washington Redskins first play at RFK Stadium?
What was the stadium first called? Who did the
Redskins play and who won?
GO SKINS!!!!!!!!!
